11.á Warranty Coverage
Warranty coverage and extended
warranty coverage are often overlooked in the specification.á
All manufacturers offer a one year
limited warranty and many now offer a two year warranty.á In addition, some manufacturers offer extended
warranty programs for up to a total period of 5 years.á There is often a small fee for this
warranty extension.
Generally the manufacturersÆ
warranties are limited to the supply of
replacement parts.á Warranty
labor is typically supplied by the local installing
dealer.á There is often misunderstanding
about labor coverage.á The requirement
should be clearly stated in the spec.
ADA Says Lifts Must Work
The ADA requires the creation and
maintenance of an accessible route into the building.á Simply installing a lift is
not good enough.á It is the
responsibility of the building owner to keep the lift functional
and available.á Therefore
a good labor and materials warranty, and the requirement
of preventive maintenance visits at intervals recommended
by the manufacturer should be included
in the spec.
